Gaula report - week 32By Jesper Havshøi – Fish and Outdoor - Fredericia Hello everyone! Here a report from my trip to Gaula in Norway. After a long trip through Sweden and Norway we arrived at our beat Granöien at Gaula on Saturday morning. The beat is a really nice one for fly fishing. The water level was perfect, so everybody was very excited about the fishing.
Nice beat... Steen was the first in the water and after 10 minutes of fishing he had the first contact but after a few seconds it let go again. Half an hour later Steen lost another one. What a start! Two contacts on the first trip on the beat. The rest of the day we did not have any contacts but we saw a lot of jumping fish. Sunday Kenneth lost a fish around 3-4 kilo after 10 seconds of fight and Thomas had a salmon rise to the fly. Sunday evening I landed the first Salmon on the beat, a small silver salmon on 1,7 kilo.
First salmon of the week, 1,7 kilo for Jesper. Monday we had no contacts at all but we still saw a lot of fish on the beat. Tuesday morning Steen started fishing early and again he lost a fish after 1 minute of fight. When I came down to the water Steen went back to the cabin to have some breakfast. I started fishing and after 10 minutes of fishing I hooked a fish around 5-6 kilo but it let go after 2 minutes of nice fight. I took a small break and a cigarette just to get the nerves down again. After the small break and change of hook I started the fishing again and after 10 minutes I had another salmon on the fly, this time I was winning the fight and I landed a nice silver fresh salmon on 2,2 kilo. The rest of the day nothing else happened.
After losing a good one, a 2,2 kilo salmon for Jesper. A couple of us went up to see the Egga Fossen and what a sight. We spent 1 hour up there and saw 250-300 salmon try to jump the waterfall. I can really recommend the trip to the Egga fossen. Wednesday the water level started to go down and there was not much activity on the beat. The water level was still going down on Thursday and Friday as well and we did not see any fish at all on the beat. On Friday afternoon Steen and Kenneth took a swim in the river with mask and a camera! In a deep pool they saw some very big salmon waiting to go further up river. We also fished Friday evening but with no result.
We will go back next year! Saturday it was time to go back to Denmark again. The result of the week 5 people fishing only 2 salmon landed. It is a tough job to be a salmon fisherman, but we will all go back again next year. Tight Lines! Jesper - info@fish-outdoor.dk - terug -
